Barasa takes swipe at Tim Wanyonyi as he brands himself best choice for Bungoma
Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa has described himself as a man of the people as he bids to become the third governor of Bungoma County.
Taking to his Facebook page on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Barasa pledged to remain in the race against what he termed as candidates fronted by people from Nairobi.
“I ask you to support me. I am led by the people’s interest and their concerns. I have not been fronted by anyone, and I am the project of the wananchi,” he said.
“I am confident God cannot allow the interest of one individual who was fronted after a meeting in Nairobi to override the broad interest of people of Bungoma,” he added.
His remarks come days after he pushed back against critics trying to frustrate his political bid and scuttle his political journey. He vowed to bring their attempts to nothing through his massive support from ordinary people.

Barasa emphasised that his strength does not come from political endorsements or elite approval but from the unity of the ordinary people who continue to support him. He reminded his critics that while they may dismiss him, the voices of the people are far louder and more powerful.
“Kuna wengine wanasema sifai kutembea bila ruhusa yao, nitaendelea kukuja na kusonga mbele. Hawa watu wananidharau; nikiwa na wananchi, wao wanasema ati sina watu, watu wa Bungoma wako na Barasa,” Barasa said.
The MP insisted that no intimidation would stop him from engaging directly with the people of Bungoma, whom he credited as the backbone of his political journey.
“To my resilient people of Ndivisi, Webuye East, your voices roar with strength, your unity drowns out the noise of self-serving politics, and your unwavering faith in transformation lights the path forward. Together, we’re not just dreaming of change, we’re forging it, step by unstoppable step,” Barasa’s sentiments on his X page read.
The United Democratic Alliance-allied politician is expected to battle it out against former Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, who have emerged among the frontrunners in the race.
