Caleb Amisi: If nature is making Sifuna a hero for presidency, so be it
By Mabonga Makhanu, May 1, 2026Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has come out to heap praise on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, stating that if nature has conspired to make Sifuna a hero who could eventually become president, then so be it.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Thursday, April 30, 2026, according to the outspoken second-term MP, there must be a political “hero” for President William Ruto, whom they are determined to make a one-term president to go home.
“If nature has conspired to make Sifuna a hero so that he can become president, so be it. A hero must be made for William Ruto to go home,” Amisi stated.

These remarks come at a time when Sifuna’s political star has been rising steadily, especially after he was ousted from his position as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Since then, he has drawn large crowds during his ‘Linda Mwananchi’ rallies across the country, positioning himself as a strong voice for the Gen Z population, a group that has long claimed to be leaderless.
Despite the growing momentum, Sifuna recently clarified that he currently has no presidential ambitions. He explained that his focus is on building a formidable, issue-based political movement before making any decision about a presidential bid.
Sifuna’s attempted removal

Suba South MP Millie Odhiambo, who was among the few members of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) who opposed his ouster during a meeting held in Kilifi. However, she was outnumbered by the majority who supported his removal.
Odhiambo has come out to argue that the mistreatment of Sifuna had, in fact, elevated his political profile, making him what she termed as a ‘hero‘.
Political analyst Herman Manyora has also weighed in, suggesting that Sifuna has outgrown the ODM secretary general position, which he held for nine years.
Manyora argued that Sifuna’s influence now extends beyond even the deputy president role and urged him to seize the moment and consider running for president, noting that such opportunities in politics rarely come twice.
Savula’s perspective

On the other hand, Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula dismissed Sifuna’s growing popularity, describing it as a “bushfire” that burns fiercely but eventually dies out.
He advised Sifuna to take lessons from Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who, according to him, initially similarly excited the masses but later lost momentum.
