Caleb Amisi denies link to Linda Mwananchi party registration
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has firmly denied any link between his faction and an application to register a political party named Linda Mwananchi.
In a post on X on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Amisi said the proposed party does not belong to him or to a group of opposition leaders often associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement.
“Linda Mwananchi party is not associated with us i.e @edwinsifuna, @HEBabuOwino, @Honcalebamisi, @orengo_james, @SenatorOsotsi, @CaroliOmondi, @KibagendiToni, @joshuakkimilu, @CliveGisairo nor @ObadiahBarongo,” Amisi wrote.
He claimed the move is aimed at misleading the public.
“It is normal ploy by government state operatives to confuse the public. Ignore it!” he added.

Reports had emerged that an application had been lodged with the Registrar of Political Parties to reserve the name “Linda Mwananchi”. The name mirrors that of a faction within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that has openly criticised the party’s current direction.
The Linda Mwananchi group includes Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Amisi and other leaders who have questioned ODM’s working relationship with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Growing internal divisions
On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, ODM held a parliamentary group meeting at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi to address growing internal divisions. Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who aligns with the dissenting wing, attended and spoke at the meeting.
“In my address, I noted that it was a crucial sitting, coming at a time when our party is facing serious internal divisions,” Osotsi said in a Facebook post after the meeting.

He urged the party to rethink its strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“I challenged the party to think boldly about its future as we must seriously consider fielding a presidential candidate instead of positioning ourselves for the lesser role of Deputy President,” he stated.
Osotsi also criticised the 10-point agenda signed with UDA in March 2025. He said ODM’s counterparts had not implemented the agreement in good faith.
“It is evident that our counterparts are not keen on implementing the agreement in good faith and reminded members that the implementation deadline is this Saturday, March 7, 2026,” he said.
The senator further defended Sifuna, who has faced removal as ODM Secretary General.
“Equally troubling is the move to remove Edwin W. Sifuna as Secretary General… Such actions only deepen divisions within the party. I therefore called for an urgent review of the decision to remove Sifuna,” Osotsi said.
Sifuna skipped Tuesday’s meeting, drawing attention amid the party’s internal wrangles. Amisi, who recently lost his position as deputy organising secretary, attended despite his association with the rebel wing.
During the meeting, ODM lawmakers resolved to retain all parliamentary seats under the party’s control. Suna East MP Junet Mohamed read the resolutions.
“We want to increase our number in the next general election from what we have today. Our parliamentary numbers are not negotiable. We can negotiate on anything, but not on our parliamentary strength,” Junet said.
ODM also confirmed that its National Delegates Conference will take place on March 27, 2026.
