Kasipul’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Boyd Were has implored the party members to prioritise unity in honour of its departed leader, Raila Odinga.

in a passionate appeal to Nyanza delegates on Friday, October 24, 2025, Were expressed confidence that ODM will remain united beyond the Raila Odinga era.

“We must be united as the Luo community and as the ODM party. This is the only reward we can give Raila Odinga,”he said.

Hopeful

With the party seemingly at the crossroads over which side of the political divide to support, Were dismissed the calls for alarm, asserting that its new acting leader, Oburu Odinga, was capable of steadying the outfit amid the turbulence caused by Raila’s passing.

“We are still very hopeful. Oburu Odinga is here as the party leader. He will hold this party firmly; do not be afraid.

Boyd concluded his address by reassuring the party of a strong presence in Kasipul ahead of the decisive by-election where ODM seeks to retain its parliamentary seat.

ODM Nyanza meeting

He signaled the upcoming polls as the occasion for youthful leadership to assume power.

“I want to assure our Party leader that in Kasipul we are also fully under ODM,” he added.”The time for youths and Gen Zs power is now,” he stated.

Ida Odinga, the widow of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, was among the guests in attendance at the meeting.

Ida made her way to the venue at Oburu Odinga’s home, moments before the official start of the meeting. joining a host of governors and MPs present.

Others present were Siaya Governor James Orengo, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, among other grassroots leaders from the four Nyanza counties.

Party unity

The meeting brings together delegates from the four counties of Migori, Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Siaya, with discussions to consolidate its hold in the region and other important party issues set to take precedence.
