Baringo North MP Makilap calls for patience on fulfillment of Ruto’s pledges

Baringo North Member of Parliament Joseph Makilap has urged Kenyans to exercise patience as they wait for President William Ruto to fulfill his campaign promises, arguing that delivering on pledges takes time.
Speaking during the burial of the late Baringo Senator William Cheptumo on March 1, 2025, Makilap expressed confidence in President Ruto’s ability to transform the country’s economy despite current challenges.
Makilap reassured residents that Ruto had been responsive to their concerns and was committed to delivering on his promises.
“I want to tell my people that our fifth president, William Ruto, has truly tried and has listened to me. Between the promise and fulfillment, there is something in between called patience,” Makilap stated.

The lawmaker likened the wait for Ruto’s pledges to the Christian faith, where patience and commitment are required before one attains the ultimate reward.
“Even in church, we are given the promise of going to heaven, but between that promise and reaching heaven, there must be patience; there’s salvation, giving offerings until you get there,” he elaborated.
Makilap defended the president, noting that even former President Mwai Kibaki took time to implement economic reforms.
“Even President Kibaki didn’t accomplish everything in two years. In fact, he lost in a referendum but later built the economy. And I know you will build Kenya’s economy. You’ll turn this country around; I have faith in you,” Makilap stressed.

Addressing President Ruto directly, Makilap acknowledged that the Head of State is not infallible and needs time to deliver on his commitments.
“Mr. President, even the promises that you have made for Kenyans – you are not an angel. Between this promise and fulfillment. Your Excellency, patience must be there, just like any other person,” he stated.
Support for NADCO report
In his address, Makilap additionally urged National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah to present the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report to Parliament for approval.
“Bring that NADCO report next week so we can pass it and move Kenya forward, putting everybody on the path to prosperity. We have no time for division; we have no time for tribal chiefs; we have time for a progressive Kenya under William Ruto,” he urged.

The legislator also expressed his support for the broad-based government initiative, emphasizing that it would contribute to the country’s stability.
“As Members of Parliament in the National Assembly, I want to assure you that the broad-based government works. It will be able to stabilize this country,” he added.
