‘Leave Azimio to save yourself from further humiliation’ – Ekuru Aukot tells Kalonzo
Thirdway Alliance Kenya party leader Ekuru Aukot has advised Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to consider leaving the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition.
Aukot through his official X account on Friday, July 19, 2024, said that it was sad for Kalonzo to be attacked by goons while addressing a presser.
According to the former presidential aspirant, the incident was a sponsored violence.
Kalonzo humiliation
Aukot says Kalonzo will save himself from further humiliations if he considers leaving the Raila Odinga-led coalition now.
“Sad…clearly sponsored violence. To Kalonzo Musyoka, here is free advice: leave Azimio to save yourself from further humiliation,” Aukot stated.

Kalonzo was on July 17, 2024, forced to end his speech prematurely after a group of goons stormed the venue at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, forcing Azimio la Umoja leaders to scamper for safety.
Kalonzo’s Azimio PG resolutions
This happened minutes after Kalonzo had started addressing Azimio members and reading out the resolutions of their Parliamentary Group meeting which was held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024.
Kalonzo had barely read out the joint Parliamentary Group meeting resolutions when the rowdy and charged goons stormed the venue and ordered everyone to vacate.
Raila’s apology to Kalonzo
Azimio Leader Raila Odinga was not present during the commotion as he had left earlier for an urgent meeting.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader has, however, issued an apology over the incident.
Raila in a statement on Thursday, July 18, 2024, apologised to Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leaders and journalists for being attacked by the goons.
Raila stated that he deeply regretted the events which happened shortly after he left the press conference, adding that some of the goons involved were known while others were unknown.
Azimio rift
The unfortunate incident has, however, led to the emergence of different factions within the Azimio coalition, signaling an end of the once vibrant political alliance that competed with Kenya Kwanza in the 2022 general election.
The differences among the Azimio co-principals started when Raila endorsed a dialogue called by President William Ruto, a move that has been opposed by his co-principals led by Kalonzo.
On Thursday, July 18, 2024, Azimio’s Martha Karua of Narc Kenya, Kalonzo Musyoka of the Wiper party, Eugene Wamalwa of the Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) and Charity Ngilu held a meeting that did not feature Raila, hinting at a clear rift in the coalition.
