Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi has launched a blistering attack on both President William Ruto and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, openly daring the Speaker to suspend him again.

Speaking in Luanda, Vihiga County, on Saturday, April 25, 2026, during a charged Linda Mwananchi rally, Kibagendi accused President Ruto of mismanaging the economy and targeting young people with policies that have worsened their livelihoods.

He further repeated the remarks that led to his earlier suspension from parliament, claiming that the executive has compromised the national assembly’s independence.

Wewe William Ruto, umeharibu uchumi wetu. Wewe William Ruto, umeharibu elimu. Wewe William Ruto, umehangaisha vijana, wewe William Ruto, umenunua bunge la kitaifa,” Kibagendi said.

Kibagendi dares Wetang’ula

In a bold escalation, the MP turned his guns on Speaker Wetang’ula, referencing previous disciplinary actions against him in Parliament and daring the Speaker to act again.

Kibagendi went further to claim that political differences and local electoral rivalries have influenced decisions within Parliament, citing the case of Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, who was recently kicked out of his lucrative parliamentary committee chair role over bribery claims.

He claimed Wamboka had been pushed out due to political disagreements linked to grassroots contests in Wetang’ula’s backyard, referencing the November 27, 2025, by-election, in which an independent candidate, Erick Wekesa, won the Chwele-Kabuchai Ward MCA seat, defeating Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya candidate.

Na wewe Moses Wetang’ula nakwambia, if you want to suspend me one more time, niko tayari. Umeleta fitina kule bunge hadi unefukuza Jack Wamboka kwasababu sisi tulikushinda kiti ya MCA kwako nyumbani,” he said.

Kibagendi’s suspension from parliament

Kibagendi was on March 31, 2026, suspended from the National Assembly for 14 days following remarks he made claiming that the Parliament had been auctioned.

The suspension came after Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, moved a motion on the floor of the House, citing the need to protect the dignity and integrity of Parliament.

The session was chaired by Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma.

While tabling the motion, Ichung’wah invoked Standing Order 108(2), arguing that disciplinary action was necessary to curb what he described as a growing trend of lawmakers making disparaging remarks about Parliament in public forums.

Wetang’ula suspends Kibagendi

Kibagendi’s suspension stems from statements he made during a national television interview, where he claimed that the National Assembly had been “compromised” and suggested it had effectively been “auctioned”.

The remarks triggered an uproar among lawmakers and drew sharp condemnation from Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who termed them as bringing the House into disrepute.

On February 17, 2026, Wetang’ula had already taken action against Kibagendi, suspending him until he issued a formal apology to the House, a move that drew condemnation from a section of lawmakers, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

“I am human; I could have made an erroneous ruling, a ruling that displeases somebody, but the rulings I make here are buttressed by the law,” the Speaker said at the time.
