Alai: ODM leadership will destroy Ruto’s 2027 campaign
Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has launched a blistering attack on the leadership of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), warning that ongoing internal wrangles could ultimately undermine President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid.
Taking to his official X account on Sunday, March 29, 2026, Alai claimed that the party’s current leadership struggles and failure to take decisive action against dissent were eroding ODM from within.
“The leadership of ODM will destroy President Ruto’s campaign,” Alai stated.
Sifuna’s ouster
Alai singled out Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, insisting that the recent Special National Delegates Conference (NDC) should have focused solely on his removal as Secretary General.
The outspoken MCA accused Sifuna of defying party leadership and continuing to act with impunity, alleging that he is still using official party resources while openly criticising senior figures within ODM.

According to Alai, the failure by ODM’s top leadership to rein in internal dissent has emboldened factions and exposed cracks within the party. He claimed that key leaders are reluctant to confront Sifuna, further worsening the situation.
“ODM Special NDC should have had a single agenda. Removal of Sifuna as SG. Edwin Sifuna is still on the rooftop of ODM SG’s official Prado KCW, and he is using the vehicle to insult Oburu, Junet, and Wanga while they look from the sidelines scared of him,” Alai wrote on X.
In his critique, Alai invoked the leadership approach of ODM’s founding figure, Raila Odinga, arguing that discipline within the party was previously more decisive.
“We are destroying ODM. Baba told us that punishment must be instant and decisive,” he stated.

Alai’s remarks come moments after Sifuna and his Linda Mwananchi team stormed Mombasa, where they drew massive crowds at Tononoka Grounds during their rally.
During the Mombasa rally, Sifuna continued with his attacks against the ODM Party leadership, insisting that he cannot be an SG under the stewardship of Oburu Odinga.
Sifuna rejects Oburu’s leadership
This comes days after Sifuna ruled out the possibility of serving as secretary general under the Siaya senator following his ratification as leader of the ODM Party.
Speaking during a gathering organised by the Linda Mwananchi faction at Ufungamano House on Friday, March 27, 2026, Sifuna openly rejected the idea of working under the new leadership structure.
“Oburu tafuta SG wako, mimi siwezi kuwa SG wa Oburu. Wacha leo niseme hapa mbele ya mwenyezi Mungu. I will not be the SG of mediocrity. After Baba Raila Amollo Odinga, you characters do not deserve me. I will say this without fear,” he said.
