The Nairobi business community has warned goons masquerading as demonstrators that they will be vigilant during the planned protests today.

Speaking at the press briefing, the Nairobi business community chair, Wilfred Kamau (pictured, centre), stated that there were people pretending to be protesters, taking advantage of the peaceful Gen Z protests to vandalise and break into their businesses, destroying a ton of properties.

“So, what we are saying is that now, we are going to protect our businesses. The Nairobi business community will be in town and there will be no business that will be closed, business will have to go on as usual and we shall protect them,” Kamau remarked.

Following the alleged loss of more than Sh3 billion due to rampant looting and vandalism in the Central Business District (CBD) three weeks ago, the community has shown its readiness to protect its properties.

The community also called upon the police and security agents to do their work and that they would only provide backup. Addressing the business people, Kamau urged them to protect their businesses during demonstrations and be vigilant.

“We are telling business people, we will help you, don’t lock your shops and go away, help yourselves. The community along with the police will also help,” Kamau said.

In their last press briefing earlier this month, the community also accused unnamed politicians of hiring goons to infiltrate the protests to destroy their properties and steal from them to incriminate Gen Z.

The chairperson claimed that they knew who they were and that they would come for them. “We are here to tell them that we are not going to allow people or groups organised to come and joke with our businesses, we are now out to protect our interests and the interests of stakeholders,” Kamau said.
