KAA announces new direct flight route between Nairobi and Bahrain

Gulf Air has begun direct flights to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi, as it expands its network in Africa.
In an announcement, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) confirmed receipt of the inaugural flight on July 2, 2025, which is set to connect Nairobi and Bahrain.
“Today, we proudly receive Gulf Air’s inaugural flight to JKIA, marking a new chapter in connectivity between Nairobi and Bahrain. Here’s to new journeys, more choices, and exciting opportunities for business and leisure,” KAA announced.
In a statement on March 18, 2025, Gulf Air announced its five weekly flights to Nairobi, marking its return to the country and re-establishing a vital link to the capital city, which was last served in 2012.
“Starting June 2, 2025, Gulf Air will operate five weekly flights to Nairobi. Services will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays, with two flights offered on Fridays, all operated by the modern Airbus A320neo aircraft,” read the statement in part.
Gulf Air Group Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Goh stated that the direct service aligns with the airline’s strategy of calibrated expansion and serving new markets, providing passengers with greater choice and convenience for travel between East Africa and Bahrain and beyond.
“We are delighted to announce the launch of direct flights to Nairobi, offering convenient flight options to our passengers. The Nairobi route will enhance connectivity for both business and leisure travellers, fostering stronger ties between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Republic of Kenya,” he stated.

This comes months after SalamAir, Oman’s low-cost carrier, launched direct flights from Muscat to Nairobi, Kenya, marking a major milestone in its expansion into Africa.
The inaugural flight landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on March 17, 2025, opening up opportunities for trade, tourism, and investment between the two countries.
SalamAir CEO Adrian Hamilton-Manns stated that Nairobi is a thriving economic hub with immense tourism potential, and this route provides an affordable, convenient link for both business and leisure travellers
“The flights between Muscat and Nairobi enhance access for Kenyan travellers to explore Oman and connect seamlessly to the GCC and the Indian subcontinent,” he added.
On her part, Oman’s Ambassador to Kenya, Nasra Salim Mohamed Al Hashmi, stated that the route is expected to enhance trade, tourism, and investment opportunities, thereby strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
“Improved connectivity will facilitate business engagements and promote cultural exchange, reinforcing the historical relationship that has long existed between Oman and Kenya. The introduction of this service reflects a mutual commitment to expanding cooperation across key sectors.”
