Njuri Njeke elders endorse Raila in Meru

Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga has received a major boost after Njuri Njeke Council of Elders endorsed his candidacy.

Raila was endorsed by the elders in an event witnessed by Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Peter Munya on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

At the same time, the Azimio flag bearer also took time to reconcile Kiraitu and Munya in a bid to solidify his support in the region.

Elders call for Kiraitu, Munya unity

In May this year, the Council’s Secretary-General Josphat Murangiri pointed out that there was a need for Kiraitu and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, whom he referred to as the face of the region, to unite for the purpose of common political interest of the region.

“The face of Meru is Kiraitu and Munya and we are doing our best to ensure the duo have a handshake for the purpose of having a unified region now that we have all endorsed Raila as our preferred presidential candidate.

“If we are not careful we may even lose what we have been given and promised by the government because we are not ready to suffer if we join the opposition,” Murangiri said.

In a quick rejoinder, Kiraitu said there is no bad blood between him and the CS.

He said he is ready to support Munya in all ways to ensure he remains at the top position in the next formation.

“I don’t have a fight with Munya. I even gave Ksh1 million to Njuri Ncheke to ensure they support and bless him to represent us at the national level so personally, I have no bad blood with him and I am ready to work with him because we need to have a unified region that speaks in one voice and walk in the same political direction,” Kiraitu stated.
