UDA leaders in Mombasa now claim their opponents were planning chaos to scare away their supporters from participating in the August 9 General Election.

Speaking in Mombasa yesterday, they issued a list of 36 leaders of local criminal gangs whom they alleged had been hired to disrupt elections in various parts of Mombasa to scare away voters.

They also accused their rivals of continuously intimidating their supporters. Led by UDA Governor candidate Hassan Omar and Nyali MP Mohamed Ali, the politicians called on security agencies to tighten security for all Kenyans.

“They are planning to use youth to cause fear and intimidate our voters. All we want is an equal security provision to all our aspirants and voters so that we can have an equal playing ground,” said Ali.
