‘Mimi si mtu wa kutishwa na moshi kidogo’ – Karua speaks out over Kisii tear gas incident
Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya presidential running mate Martha Karua has now said she cannot be scared by “small smoke” after her Kisii meeting ended prematurely after a person, who has been identified as a police officer lobbed teargas canister.
“Mimi si mtu wa kutishwa na moshi kidogo ndio nimerudi hapa Gusii land ata kama ni Nyamira (I’m not the person to be threatened with small smoke that is why I have returned to Gusii region here in Nyamira),” Karua told a rally in Nyamira County on Friday.
Karua whisked to safety
Karua and other leaders were whisked to safety during the melee as members of the public scampered for safety during the incident which left several people including journalists injured and chairs broken.

Police spokesman Bruno Shioso said they had received a complaint about an incident in which tear gas was discharged at the event and had commenced an investigation.
“NPS wishes to inform the public that preliminary investigation into the discharge of the teargas at the public meeting presided over by Hon Martha Karua who is the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance presidential running mate, has established that the person responsible for the incident is a police officer,” read the NPS statement by Spokesperson Bruno Shioso.
“Firm and decisive action will be taken on anyone found responsible for the actions leading to the discharge of the teargas,” National Police Service Spokesperson Bruno Shioso said a statement.
