Gideon Moi to defend his Baringo senatorial seat

KANU Chairman Gideon Moi will defend his Baringo senate seat in the August 9 elections, People Daily Digital has confirmed.

The announcement follows after Tiaty Member of Parliament (MP) William Kamket who is Moi’s ally revealed that the Kanu boss will be submitting his papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices on Monday, May 30, 2022.

KANU’s impact on political parties

Speaking to supporters in Baringo, Kamket who drummed up support for the Azimio la Umoja- One Kenya presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga alluded that KANU has been instrumental in the formation of coalitions that will clinch power in the upcoming election.

“KANU has created powerful coalitions that will form the next government ahead of the August 9 elections,” he stated.

While reiterating that Odinga will clinch power in the upcoming election, the lawmaker also drummed up support for the coalition’s deputy captain Martha Karua, reminding the supporters of the impact she has on the Pokot people.

Similarly, Tirioko Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Sam Lokales expressed excitement following Moi’s decision to defend his seat in the upcoming election.

Speaking during the same event, Lokales implored supporters to vote for Moi defending that he was a much more competent aspirant compared to Baringo North MP William Cheptumo who is also eyeing the same seat under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party led by Deputy President William Ruto.

Following the development, the Baringo senator and DP Ruto will be embroiled in a protracted supremacy battle in Rift Valley.
