The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Diocese of Mombasa has faulted the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for using church buildings as polling stations.

The church has written to IEBC demanding degazettement of polling stations that are inside churches.

Mombasa ACK bishop Alphonce Baya said converting churches into polling stations amounts to abuse of places of worship.

Baya asked IEBC to consider using tents within the compounds but not inside church buildings.

“I have reports that ACK Magogoni in Kisauni  has always been used as a voting centre. I think it’s wrong and we will not accept that to continue because it is not allowed, “ he said.

“Our faith allows us to vote but, it’s wrong for IEBC to allow people to vote inside a church. We can only allow voting to be done within the compound but not inside the building,” said Baya.
