Detectives have confirmed the arrest of a man believed to have abducted himself and inflicted injuries on his body and demanding a Ksh100,000 ransom to secure his release.

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) noted that Nobert Mulwo, aged 25, manipulated his family to send ransom in a well-orchestrated self-kidnap plan.

According to the detectives, the 25-year-old’s family reported that their kin had been abducted by two men who bundled him into a Toyota Probox before taking him to an unknown destination.

Acting on the report, the sleuths hurriedly pursued the abductors tracing Nobert at Muruku Lodgings in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

“Nobert Mulwo, 25, was freed from the bounds of a rope fastened on his legs and arms and a bloody bandage that kept his mouth shut, a calculated move staged to influence the family to act fast and send the ransom,” DCI added.

Upon interrogation, detectives discovered that the alleged abduction was a carefully calculated scheme to recover money lost by Nobert help Nobert secure funds after losing his entire November salary to betting.

Detectives also revealed that the 25-year-old was working in cahoots with an accomplice identified as Ndolo.

Following the operation, detectives recovered Ksh10,100 in cash, a handset used to communicate with the family, a scalpel and bandage used to self-harm.

Nobert has since been handed over to the DCI Kajiado for processing pending arraignment.

“Recovered were Sh10,100 in cash and the handset he was using to communicate with the family. Also taken as exhibits were a scalpel blade and bandages he was using on the self-inflicted wound to create the impression that his kidnappers were ruthless and meant business,” detectives added.
