Talanta hold KCB as Murang’a Seal end losing run
Ulinzi Stars collected yet another vital point after managing a 1-1 draw against Murang’a Seal in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match played on Saturday, December 9, 2023.
The Soldiers would have broken the deadlock in the ninth minute, but Ben Stanley saw his effort saved by the home side goalkeeper, Wilson Ngamau.
Mark Bikokwa, after being superbly spotted by Michael Wanyika, came close to scoring, but his shot was blocked for the first corner of the game.
Seal had their most open chance in the 20th minute through Samuel Semo, but the visitors pulled off a great block to clear the danger.
The opener was scored in the 32nd minute when Bikokwa found the back of the net after meeting a corner ball delivered by Stanley.
Although Seal were the more determined side towards the closing stage of the second half, they could not get an equalizer to deny Ulinzi the lead before going for the break.
Second half action
The home side fought as hard as they had in the latter stages of the first half and almost scored in the 47th minute through Yusuf Ally.
Boniface Muchiri, who has been a key figure for Ulinzi this season, came close to scoring two minutes after the hour mark, but his header went off target.
Ulinzi Stars survived a scare when Semo’s strike hit the woodwork, and this was not the first time the Premier League debutants were denied by the post.
There was a chance to equalise for Seal in the 73rd minute, but Eric Balecho’s header, from close range, went wide.
The hard work and determination from the Seal side were rewarded in the 81st minute when they finally scored the equalizer through Batts Awita.
The draw means Seal have ended their losing run that had stretched to two games.
At Ruaraka Sports Ground, Nairobi City Stars saw off Bandari with a 1-0 win. In an early kick-off at the same venue, KCB and FC Talanta went home with a point each following a goalless draw.
