Eliud Kipchoge and Ruth Chepng’etich confirmed for London Marathon
Veteran marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge has been confirmed among the participants for the London Marathon set to take place on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Two-time world cross-country champion Jacob Kiplimo, from Uganda, has also been confirmed as another top-level participant.
World half marathon champion Sabastian Sawe, who ran 2:02:05 in Valencia last month on his debut at the distance, and Berlin Marathon champion Milkesa Mengesha and 2024 Tokyo Marathon runner-up Timothy Kiplagat will also line up.
The line-up also includes New York City Marathon champion Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands, Olympic fourth-place finisher Emile Cairess of Great Britain, German record-holder Amanal Petros, Norway’s Sondre Moen, Australian record-holder Andrew Buchanan, Italy’s European half marathon champion Yeman Crippa, and Olympic triathlon champion Alex Yee, as per World Athletics.
Kipchoge’s return
Kipchoge will compete in London for the first time since 2020, and eyes will be on him as he eyes a fifth title in London after his previous triumphs in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019. He is also the fastest man in the field, thanks to the personal best of 2:01:09 he set in Berlin in 2022, a former world record that now places him second on the world all-time list.
In the women’s category, world record-holder Ruth Chepngetich and two-time Berlin Marathon champion Tigist Assefa will compete. Olympic marathon champions Sifan Hassan and Tamirat Tola, whose participation was confirmed earlier this week, are also in making the race predictably tight.
2021 London Marathon champion Joyciline Jepkosgei and Valencia Marathon champion Alemu Megertu, who finished third and fourth, respectively, in London this year, will also run and are among the six women in the field with personal bests faster than 2:17.
