Reigning national record holder 100m Maximilla Imali will use this weekend’s Athletics Kenya (AK) meeting at the Nyayo Stadium for her preparations as the new season intensifies.

Imali is also eyeing a slot in Team Kenya for the World Athletics championships in Budapest, Hungary scheduled to take place in August this year.

She  will be competing in her usual 100m and 200m race as she plans to have a go at honours in upcoming events including Kip Keino Classic, Diamond League, Botswana and America later in the year.

Three weeks ago, she competed in the same distances in Kisumu and Mumias to gauge her endurance and she emerged the winner.

“Am ready to compete in the AK track and field meet. I want to run well to be part of my preparations as I prepare to get a slot in the team for the major upcoming championships,” said Imali.

She is also targeting the deferred World Relays in 2025 which were to be held in China this year but were postponed due to Covid 19 pandemic.

“I’m training well and happy about the improvement in my performance, I aim to run well in the world showpiece,” Imali added.

Imali, who also made it to the final of the 800m at the 2014 World Under-20 championship, said she will participate in the Botswana athletics championships which have been approved by AK as part of her preparation.

The 27-year-old who is also the 2019 All-African Games bronze medallist in the women’s 4 × 100m relay, erased her previous record of 11.35 seconds that she set at the national championships in April last year with a new national record and personal best of 11.26 seconds.
