Kenya’s elite middle and long-distance runners are set to take centre stage tonight, Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Louis-II Stadium in Monaco as the Wanda Diamond League series reaches its tenth stop.

Olympic and World Champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi will headline a stellar 800m lineup, looking to extend his dominance against familiar rivals.

The 20-year-old arrives in the principality riding high after two successive Diamond League victories and a season-leading time of 1:41.95 clocked in Stockholm.

In Monaco, Wanyonyi will renew rivalries with Canada’s Marco Arop and Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati the same men he shared the Paris 2024 Olympic podium with.

Sedjati, who won last year’s Monaco edition in a blistering 1:41.46, enters the race with confidence after a strong second-place finish behind Wanyonyi in Stockholm.

Arop, meanwhile, remains undefeated this year over 800m but is yet to compete on the Diamond League stage this season.

Joining Wanyonyi in Monaco is a determined Mary Moraa, who is seeking to bounce back from a disappointing ninth-place finish in the 800m at last weekend’s Prefontaine Classic.

The Commonwealth champion will test herself in the less conventional 1000m event, where she’ll be joined by rising star Nelly Chepchirchir.

Chepchirchir, 22, is enjoying an unbeaten season and recently captured the women’s 1500m title in Paris, clocking 3:57.02.

But she and Moraa will face stiff competition from Australia’s Jessica Hull, who has also shown excellent form this year.

Kenya will also be well represented in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, where teenager Edmund Serem and seasoned Commonwealth Champion Abraham Kibiwott will go head-to-head with Morocco’s Soufiane El Bakkali the reigning world champion and the man to beat in the water-and-barrier event.

In the final distance event of the evening, Jacob Krop the World Championships 5000m silver medallist — will carry Kenya’s hopes in the men’s 5000m as he takes on a fast and deep field.

The action in Monaco begins at 9:00 PM EAT, with Kenyans expected to make a strong statement ahead of the Paris 2025 World Championships.
