Dragon Warriors, North Kenya shine at Mugs Mug
Dragon Warriors won the weekend Mugs Mug 2022 Final after a tight fight against Samurai at the Nairobi Polo Club moments after North Kenya had silenced Tack Rack in the Plate final on Sunday.
Polo enthusiasts were treated to thrilling action with teams jostling for the silverware on offer courtesy of East Africa Breweries Limited through their brand Tusker Malt. Both high and low handicap players turned up the style in the chukkas on play to produce emphatic performance.
The main finale on Mugs Mug Trophy saw Dragon Warriors hit Samurai 7 field goals against 5 field goals. This was a high tempo game with 15 fouls recorded with 10 hit ins and 4 open goals missed.
The 12 goal game saw Dragon Warriors had handicap 1.5 Harry Stitchbury emerging top scorer with 4 field goals with Samurai’s Natasha Tismniersky on handicap 0.5 second on the scorers log with 3 of her own.
The second chukka of the game was the more active with players getting involved in the contest which saw Dragons score 4 field goals against 2 for Samurai.
Harry Stitchbury shone in the third chukka with three goals. The scorers for Samurai included Raphael Nzomo (handicap 2.5) and Jadini Nzomo (handicap 1.5) both on singles while the other scores for Dragon Warriors was Harry Griffiths (handicap 1.5),Izzy Stitchbury (handicap 0.5) and Lochie Stichbury (handicap handicap -0.5) who all had one goal apiece.
In the opening match of the 2022 Plate Final,North Kenya led by handicap 2.5 Joss Craig defeated Tack Rack by 6 Field goals against 4 for the latter team.
The match had 11 in hit-ins,5 missed goals and 11 fouls plus a total of 10 Field goals. Craig had a solo output of 4 goals with Lochy Murray (handicap-1) and Aisha Gross (1 handicap) contributing their part with a single goal apiece. As for Tack Rack,Archie Camm (handicap-1.5) and Megan Griffiths (handicap 1.5) scored two goals. apiece.
The opening chukka saw Tack Rack on fire with Megan Griffiths scoring a double and Archie Camm with one goal while Joss Craig had the lone goal then.
Afterwards,it was all North Kenya on attack mode as they scored three quick goals in the second chukka through Joss Craig and Lochy Murray with no return Tack Rack.
That was similar to the third chukka which saw only a single field goal courtesy of Joss Craig hit in with Tack Rack with none. The fourth chukka saw two goals scored with each side one apiece through Aisha Gross and Archie Camm.
