Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga has criticized Deputy President Kithure Kindiki for failing to unite the Mount Kenya region.

Speaking on Saturday, January 18, 2025, Kahiga claimed that the DP was blindly following orders without considering its impact on the vote-rich region.

He added that the DP was walking on eggshells over fears of being replaced as DP. Without mincing his words, Kahiga stated that since he was appointed DP, Kindiki has never visited his home area.

Muthomi Njuki enda ambia deputy president aache uoga, hajafika ata nyumbani ati atatolewa, kwani akitolewa Gachagua amekufa? He has never come home tuambiane ukweli sababu anaambiwa usiende milimani, we kazi yako ni kuunganisha wakenya. How can you unite Kenya when you have not united your home?” he posed.

Siku awache uoga, ati wanamwambia walimpatia kiti, walimpatia kiti nini? Hatukuekewa deputy anaskumwa kama wheelbarrow. Asitishwe he is the deputy president of Kenya,” he added.

Kahiga’s sustained criticism

Kahiga, a key ally of former DP Rigathi Gachagua, has frequently been spotted criticising DP Kindiki’s appointment as the country’s second in command following Gachagua’s impeachment.

It was only in November last year when the county chief, who had initially warned of dire consequences should Gachagua be impeached, made a U-turn and supported Kindiki’s appointment.

“We have no problem with Kindiki and we are okay with his appointment. Nyeri should not be out of the map of the government of Kenya, because that was our seat and we still have three years to go and so we should not be forgotten,” he said.

“We do not want to see others eat as we salivate. We want to plead with him to think about the people of Nyeri as move forward.”
