Harambee Stars defender Zam Vyner’s quest to continue his fine club form with Bristol City suffered a setback in a 2-1 loss to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, October 4, 2025.

Vyner featured for the entire clash as the Red Army saw their push for Premier League promotion derailed by the loss.

With the defeat, Gerhard Stuber’s side remains in ninth place in the English Championship table after six games.

Player of the month

Vyner has been a standout performer for the club and was named the player of the month in September for his outstanding defensive prowess in front of goal.

His standout performances included playing every minute of Bristol City’s matches that month, showcasing his reliability as a centre-back.

He also earned the man of the match award for the team’s 0-0 draw against Preston North End, where he helped secure a clean sheet.

Additionally, Vyner impressed in an unorthodox midfield role during a mid-September draw with Ipswich Town. The defender is among the contingent expected to do duty for Kenya in the upcoming World Cup Qualifier ties.

World Cup qualification action

Kenya is expected to play back-to-back ties against Burundi before wrapping up the qualifiers assignment away to the Ivory Coast.

Stars managed a share of the spoils in the first-leg meeting against the two teams, with McCarthy hoping to try out more players after Kenya’s qualification chances went up in smoke.

Vyner was part of the Harambee Stars’ squad that played against Burundi and the Ivory Coast back on June 2, 2024.

He recently earned his call for the upcoming games as McCarthy unveiled a 24-man team for the final round of qualifying ties.

Kenya’s final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers are against Burundi on October 9 and the Ivory Coast on October 14.

Harambee Stars currently sits fourth in Group F with nine points from eight games, aiming to end the campaign positively despite slim qualification prospects.
