World conqueror Chepng’etich to defend title at 45th Chicago race Marathon

World marathon champion Ruth Chepng’etich will defend her title during the 45th edition of Bank of America Chicago marathon, a World Athletics Elite Platinum Label road race on October 8 in USA.

Chepng’etich dominated the Chicago marathon last year where she won in 2:14:18, just 14 seconds off the world record. It was the second-fastest women’s marathon performance of all time.

It was her second consecutive victory. She is aiming to win for the 3rd time in a row. And she’s hoping to clock her best time over the 42.195km distance.

“I plan to defend my title and improve my time,” said Chepngetich. There is no better race in the world than the Bank of America Chicago Marathon,” She added.

In April this year she came second during the 18th edition of Istanbul half marathon in 67:18 behind Purity Komen who stormed to her biggest career win with a personal best of 66:30,while Evaline Chirchir made it an all-Kenyan podium with 67:31.

Chepngetich also finished third at the 2020 London Marathon and during a 2021 season with a lot of ups and downs she also set a world half marathon of 1:04:02 at the Istanbul with 1:04:02,where she did not finish the Olympic marathon in Sapporo but she bounced back by winning the Chicago Marathon In 2:22:21.
