KRU announces dates for Women’s National 7s Circuit
Kenya Rugby Union has announced the dates for the 2023 Women’s National 7s Circuit, set to commence in August.
The action-packed tournament will kick off on August 5-6 at the Nakuru Athletic Club, with the Prinsloo 7s tournament setting the stage for an enthralling display of women’s rugby prowess.
Men’s/Women National 7s Circuit
In an exciting twist, the tournament will run concurrently with the third leg of the men’s National 7s Circuit, providing fans with a double dose of rugby excitement at NAC.
A week later, on August 12-13, all eyes will be on the RFUEA Ground in Nairobi as the second round, the Christie 7s, gets underway.
Just like the opening leg, the Christie 7s will also run concurrently with the men’s National 7s Circuit, ensuring an action-packed weekend for rugby enthusiasts.
The climax of the Women’s National Sevens Circuit will be held on September 9-10, 2023, with the final round, the George Mwangi Kabeberi 7s, returning to the RFUEA Ground in Nairobi.
Anticipation will reach its peak as the top-performing teams from the previous rounds battle it out for the coveted championship title, making it a must-watch event for rugby fans and sports enthusiasts alike.
National 7s Circuit standalone event
In the midst of the exhilarating women’s tournament, the men’s National 7s Circuit will have Tisap 7s, offering rugby fans a thrilling standalone event during the circuit.
Meanwhile, the men’s National 7s Circuit has already seen two tournaments completed. KCB emerged victorious in the opening leg, the Dala 7s, while Kabras claimed the title in the Driftwood 7s.
With their impressive performances in Mombasa, Kabras Sugar has shot to the top of the National 7s Circuit standings.
In a gripping final, Kabras Sugar showcased their prowess by securing a hard-fought 10-7 victory against Menengai Oilers, earning them the Driftwood 7s title.
The win, combined with their earlier runners-up position in the Dala 7s, allowed Kabras to accumulate 22 points in Mombasa, adding to their total of 19 points.
With a grand total of 41 points, Kabras have now overtaken KCB Rugby to claim the top spot in the National 7s Circuit standings. KCB, with 39 points, slips to the second position after finishing third in the Driftwood 7s.
