Harambee Stars interim head coach Francis Kimanzi hopes to build a strong base for CHAN using the Mapinduzi Cup.

Kenya have been invited to participate in Zanzibar’s Mapinduzi Cup that will run from January 3-13, 2025, and Kimanzi hopes that it will help Harambee Stars prepare better for CHAN.

“We had a large squad initially because we wanted to analyse and give all a chance to show what they can do. All the 40 that were in camp from the onset are really quality players, but we needed just 24 for the Mapinduzi Cup.

“We now have a base that we will build on ahead of CHAN,” Kimaniz said as quoted by the Football Kenya Federation website.

Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will co-host the CHAN edition in February this year.

Meanwhile, Kimanzi named his squad that will take part in the Mapinduzi Cup. The coach had called up 40 players to training camp, but he trimmed it to 24 as they are set to leave for Zambia on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
