Wazito have yet again withstood the Football Kenya Federation Premier League playoff storm after beating Migori Youth 3-0 at the Muhoroni Stadium on Saturday, July 22, 2023.

This is the second time Wazito have survived being relegated after doing so before last season began when they beat Murang’a Seals in the playoffs.

Wazito dispatched Migori Youth with a statement performance and win as they preserved their Premier League status against the odds. The first leg ended in a 0-0 draw in Migori and in the second leg, Wazito made sure they used home advantage to beat the National Super League side.

Robert Mbulere scored the opening goal for the home side before Robert Onyango and Collins Neto added the other goals that were vital for Wazito.

Meanwhile, Wazito almost claimed the opening goal in the 17th minute, but Migori Youth’s goalkeeper Victor Kamunge made a vital block to deny Christopher Raila.

Another chance for Wazito to claim the lead came in the 28th minute, but Kelvin Wesonga’s goal-bound header was cleared, but again, it would not have stood given that the referee judged there was a foul committed in the buildup.

Wazito’s goals

Wazito finally got the breakthrough in the 46th minute when Mbulere fired into the net to stun the visitors.

When the second half began, Wazito were as determined as they were in the late stages of the first half and scored the second goal in the 48th minute through Onyango’s curled effort.

In the 54th minute, Neto scored the third goal that ensured they not only preserved their slot in the Premier League but also crowned the day with a big win and a clean sheet.

Migori Youth’s NSL focus

After failing to grab a ticket that would have given them their maiden appearance in the Premier League, Migori Youth will hope to dominate the National Super League and win the title that will ensure they get promoted next season.

On the other hand, Wazito must make sure they avoid problems that made them struggle in the 2022–23 season in order to have a smooth campaign next term.
