Sofapaka will blame themselves for wasting a glut of chances after they settled for a  one-all stalemate against AFC Leopards in a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League clash at Nyayo National Stadium yesterday.

Sofapaka were fast off the blocks, Lawrence Juma finding himself unmarked in the six-yard box in the 20th minute to rifle the ball past Leopards goalkeeper Maxwell Muchesia.

Juma could have secured another beauty six minutes later but was dispossessed of the ball by Lewis Banda just when he was about to pull the trigger.

Despite the early set back, Leopards managed to draw level through Daniel Musamali in the 40th minute.

Elsewhere in Ruaraka, the league’s new boys FC Talanta claimed a priceless barren draw with the more experienced Ulinzi Stars.

Ulinzi should blame themselves for failure to translate their dominance into victory and especially in the dying minutes of the highly physical match against a team which had lost 2-1 to Vihiga Bullets going into the fixture

To add salt to injury, Ulinzi had their first choice goalkeeper James Saruni being stretchered off after receiving a knock and was replaced by Jackton Odhiambo.

The introduction of Omar Boraafya for Daniel Waweru and Masita Masuta for Anthony Abwao could not help matters either for Ulinzi as Talanta put up a stiff resistance which saw them climb to the tenth position in the chart with 28 points from 22 matches.

Second half substitute Julius Okutu, who replaced Enosh Ochieng’, had the lion’s share of the missed chances, the first coming in the 77th minute with a superb attempt that was cleared off the lines by Talanta’s backline.

On the other end, Dennis Oalo was unlucky from outside the area with his chance going begging moments after Gearson Likono had missed a sitter.

In the meantime, newly-signed Kenya Police FC offensive midfielder Francis Kahata came to haunt his former employer as the law enforcers shocked K’ogalo 2-0 at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Kahata, who Gor rejected upon expiry of his contract with Dar Simba of Tanzania, opened Police’s account in the 58th minute before Clinton Kinanga helped himself with the second goal in the 87th minute.

As Gor were tottering, league leaders Kakamega Homeboyz’s title hopes received a jolt after a 2-1 loss to Bandari at Mbaraki sports ground in Mombasa.

KImani Wanjo gave Bandari the lead in the 45th minute before Ugandan William Wadri added the second in the 69th minute.

Kakamega Homeboyz then pulled one back through Sylvester Owino in the 81st minute.

In Thika, hosts Bidco United returned to winning ways after dismissing Mathare United 2-0, Jacob Onyango and Peter Nzuki scoring in either half.
