The Kenya Sevens management, led by head coach Kevin Wambua, has announced a star-studded national rugby team for the upcoming 2026 season.

The team has been in training for the last two months following the conclusion of the 27th edition of the Safari7s and is now preparing for the HSBC SVNS 2, kicking off in February 2026.

Nairobi is honoured to host the first leg of the SVNS 2 tournament scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 14, and Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Speaking to the Kenya Rugby Union media team, Humphrey Kayange, Director in charge of the National 7s teams, described the hosting rights as a special moment.

Special moment

“This is a special moment! Kenya gets to host the SVNS 2 leg in Nairobi.”

“Having the calibre of players competing in Nairobi is something we have been dreaming of for many years, and what a platform SVNS 2 will give our players to compete and perform in front of the fans who have been the heartbeat of Kenya Sevens for decades,” Kayange said.

The legend of the game further stated that hosting the SVNS 2 leg in Nairobi will boost the confidence of Kenya Sevens while playing at home.

”This is more than just a tournament – it goes to show that vision we have had for many years to have a World Series event and compete at home will build confidence, visibility, and belief,” he added.

Kayange has also rallied Kenya Sevens supporters and rugby enthusiasts to show up on February 14 and 15, 2025, and push the Kenyan sides at the Nyayo National Stadium for top honours.

“To our supporters, your passion has always lifted our teams on the global stage, and hosting this event is a chance to come and show the world, once again, what Kenyan rugby spirit looks and feels like.”

“I can’t wait for next year and look forward to celebrating this with everyone and inspiring the next generation.”
