The Kenya men’s volleyball team squad for the 2024 CAVB Zone 5 African Games qualifiers slated for Egypt has been trimmed to 16 players.

The team will undergo a further purge in order to have 14 players who will finally be charged to take part in the qualifiers slated for later this month.

Gregory Kiplimo and Eugene Okello, both youngsters who have shown an ability to grow into dependable stars, have been dropped after head coach Gideon Tarus trimmed the squad from 18 to 16 players.

The final 14-man squad will be announced in the coming week after the team has undergone more training sessions that will be supervised by Tarus, his assistant Elisha Aliwa, and team trainer Denis Mokua.

Wafalme Stars are looking to get back to the continental games, for they have been unable to since their last appearance in the 2011 finals held in Maputo, Mozambique, where they clinched bronze.

Setters: Brian Melly (Captain), Kelvin Kipkosgei

Libero: James Mutero, Sam Juma, and Hudson Kipchumba

Opposite players: Elphas Makuto, Joshua Kimaru

Middle blockers: Wilson Cheruiyot, Shadrack Misiko, Brian Kamonde, and Levis Ogutu

Outside hitters: Denis Omollo, Sila Kipruto, Naftali Chumba, Denis Esokon, and Nicholas Matui
