Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have terminated the services of highly-rated Technical Director Michael Amenga, in their latest purge of staffers who had been employed by the previous regime that left office after the December 7, 2024, elections.

Other staffers affected by the June 9, 2025, move include the head of the FKF Women’s Desk, Natasha Nyakundi, who also doubled up as the Team Manager of the Junior Starlets team, legal officer Macharia Mukono, Youth Officer Daniel Mwaura, Referees Manager Steve Oduor and the Head of Referees Sylvester Kirwa.

According to letters in People Sports’ possession, the affected football administrators were informed that they were being rendered redundant. The purge is expected to continue today.

When reached for comment, FKF Chief Executive Officer Harold Ndege neither confirmed nor denied the developments, even after requesting that questions be sent to him via message.

National women’s football team head coach Beldine Odemba is also understood to have resigned in a huff on the eve of the team’s departure to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) tournament set to begin on Thursday.

According to insiders, Odemba (who has been at the helm of the team’s recent success) felt aggrieved after she was not allowed to name her squad, with the team’s technical adviser, Alex Alumira, believed to have overseen player call-ups.

In her resignation announcement, Odemba cited the lack of institutional backing and frustration over insufficient support from the federation as key reasons for her departure.

“Without the necessary structural and financial resources, it became impossible to execute my vision for the team,” she reportedly stated.

Similarly, Amenga’s exit from the federation leaves a gaping hole, given the contacts and expertise he had acquired over the years, contributions that saw more than 8,000 coaches receive training.

During Amenga’s tenure, Odemba and Jackline Juma — the first-ever female head coach of a Premier League club in the country — attained CAF A licences, alongside several others coaching in the top tier and National Super League.

He oversaw two CAF A courses in the country, six CAF B courses, 16 CAF C courses, and 272 CAF D courses.

He also spearheaded two FKF instructors’ courses and one FIFA and CAF instructors’ course apiece.

Amenga introduced and organised the first-ever national youth leagues for under-13 and under-15 teams from 2018 to date, launched the Football for Schools programme and established centres of excellence for boys in partnership with several schools.

He also conducted the first-ever instructors’ course in the country, through which 15 instructors were accredited by CAF.

It is believed the staffers had been given four-year contract extensions just before the elections, and terminating those contracts may compel the federation to pay for the remainder of the agreements.
