Tusker’s second consecutive win boosts their title ambitions, leave Kenya Police with challenging chase
Tusker FC tightened their grip at the summit of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League standings after a narrow 1-0 victory over a resilient Murang’a Seal at Dandora Stadium on Saturday, as Chrispine Erambo’s decisive second-half header extended the Brewers’ winning streak and put them three points clear of second-placed Kenya Police.
Following the decisive victory, their tally increased to 33 points — three more than second-placed Kenya Police who face Mara Sugar on Monday.
Under sweltering conditions, the Brewers did enough to win the fixture and keep a clean sheet. Erambo rose above his marker to nod home a brilliant delivery from Dennis Wankjala’s corner. Although the Ulinzi backline attempted to clear the ball, it had already crossed the line.
The Brewers could have doubled their lead a few minutes later when Wanjala picked out substitute Eric Baleecho with a peach of a through ball, but the winger’s half-volley was saved by the Ulinzi keeper.
The Soldiers dominated the opening half and created several chances, with Brian Opondo doing well to save shots from Brian Kafero and Enosh Ochieng.
George Kaddu almost scored a sensational free-kick from nearly 40 yards out, but the ball grazed the crossbar. Dennis Oguta also had opportunities but failed to find the back of the net.
“We want to take it one game at a time and, most importantly, maintain consistency. We don’t want to win today and then draw tomorrow. We aim to win all our matches and see what happens at the end of the season,” said Tusker interim coach Charles Okere.
The defeat saw Ulinzi drop to 12th with 22 points from 18 matches.
Meanwhile, AFC Leopards dropped vital points after a 1-1 draw against Murang’a Seal. Ingwe have now amassed 26 points from 17 matches and sit fifth on the log, while Murang’a Seal retained their ninth spot with 23 points from 18 outings.
In other matches, Posta Rangers registered their fourth win of the campaign with a 2-1 victory against the faltering FC Talanta.
