Tusker fans demand coach Okere’s sacking after FKF PL defeat to Matano’s KCB
A section of Tusker FC fans has called for the sacking of head coach Charles Okere, after the Brewers lost their opening fixture of the new campaign against KCB Football Club at the Kasarani Stadium on Friday evening, September 19, 2025.
KCB maintained its good record against Tusker in recent days, recording its second victory against the Ruaraka-based outfit in their last three meetings, courtesy of Boniface Omondi Owino’s (Bajaj) first-half brace.
Omondi gave the visiting team the opening goal in the 18th minute before wrapping up his brace in the 41st minute to hand the Bankers maximum points in the encounter.
After the final whistle, a section of frustrated Tusker fans erupted in chants, calling for the ouster of Okere, who struggled with the team last campaign. The season opener promised to be a crucial fixture for the Tusker tactician, following a frustrating 2024/2025 calendar that saw his charges finish fourth on the log, eight points behind champions Kenya Police.
Tusker, who have gone four seasons without a major honour, are seeking to win their 13th league title with Okere trying to fill the shoes left behind by Robert Matano, who joined KCB two months ago.
Okere concedes defeat
Charles Okere conceded the KCB defeat and also rued the missed chances of the match. Erick Kapaito had a chance to halve the deficit for the Brewers in the 60th minute but placed his penalty wide, missing the mark.
”First game of the season, and I believe it’s a tricky encounter. KCB is a strong team also, and for us, we congratulate the opponent on the points. For us, I believe we could have done better. It is a game that we had planned well; unfortunately, we conceded those two goals,” Okere noted.
On the new signings, Okere said, “Well, they are good players and believe they should adapt quickly in terms of our philosophy and playing style. I believe that, given more minutes in training and even in matches, they can do better because it is all about cohesion in the team, and the game is something we have to improve.”
“We had scoring opportunities, which is something we have to improve on in our next match. That is pressure already, and we have to adapt quickly so that we catch up with the rest of the pack,” Okere noted.
Before the Friday fixture, the Brewers had been the dominant side, winning 15 of their last 28 encounters, while KCB had managed just two victories, with 11 ties ending in stalemates. Last season, KCB managed to collect four vital points from Tusker. The Bankers edged the Brewers 3-2 in the first leg before holding them to a goalless draw in the return fixture.
