Trans Nzoia Falcons were the only victors in match day one of the Kenya Women Premier League season and have set the tempo in the title fight.

Falcons trounced defending champions Thika Queens at the Kenyatta Stadium in Kitale, bagging maximum points courtesy of Noel Amutata’s brace.

Goals from Fridhaus Abdalla and Mercy Njeri were not enough to secure a win for hosts Zitech Sparks at Gems Cambridge as they were held to a 2-2 stalemate against a strong Ulinzi Starlets side.

Mary Ojenge and Harambee Starlets forward Sheryl Angachi were on the scoresheet, salvaging a point for the KDF team.

Zitech Sparks coach Bernard Kitolo says he was impressed with the performance of his team and noted that they are going for the league title.

“Am happy with the way my players played today, the game was very nice.

We have shown them that football is played on the pitch and not by words as some people were speaking before the kick off. Our target this season is to claim the title and as you know last season we finished well”, Kitolo told People Daily Sports.

On his part Ulinzi Starlets tactician Joseph Mwanza said they experienced a very tough match against their opponents though noting that their ambition is to finish top of the table at the end of the season.

“The game was tough for each team because no one wants to lose the first game of the season. This one is over and my focus is now on Trans Nzoia Falcons whom we play next. Our target as a team is to finish on top of the league at the end of the season,”

In another match played on Sunday,Nakuru City Girls gave a good account of themselves to force a 0-0 against threatening Gaspo.
