Samuel Asati is currently having a fantastic outing with the Kenya 15’s rugby side dubbed Kenya Simbas. Asati with his excellent ball delivery skills and mature command of the game has managed to scoop up not one but two ‘Man of The Match’ awards at the ongoing Rugby Africa Cup being staged in France.

The first award was bagged when Kenya Simbas managed to maul Uganda Cranes 42-7 in the quarterfinals. His second and most recent award was won when Kenya outlasted Algeria in a tense encounter that ended 36-33. Here are a couple of insights into the talented world of Samuel Asati

Represented Kenya in South Africa and Germany U-16

The high octane KCB scrumhalf was part of the sevens under 16 Kenyan contingent that represented Kenya in South Africa and Germany (2013 and 2014 respectively). The squad also had hard hitter Dominic Coulson

Probably a big heartbreak but yet again a show of valiant display was seen with Asati’s presence on that unforgettable Barthes Cup final. On Saturday 31 March 2018, Chipu fell to a 37-18 loss to Namibia U20 in the Barthes U20 Trophy South final at Windhoek’s Hage Geingob Stadium.

Asati won the Erick Shirley shield with KCB

Samuel Asati was one of the crucial players that helped KCB Cubs win the Erick Shirley shield beating Resolution Impala Boks 21-17 in a hotly contested final.

2018 Prinsloo 7’s Most Promising Player

Asati had an opportunity to be selected as the most promising young player of the Prinsloo7s 2018 in the then Stanbic Bank National 7s circuit. Though the competition was stiff from the likes of Wanjala Michael, Marlin Mukolwe and Kimwele Michael, Asati still emerged as one the best scrumhalf’s at KCB.

Kenya Simbas are now heading into the Rugby Africa Cup final against Namibia in what may be termed as a battle for the Rugby World Cup qualification as the winner of the competition will automatically book a slot for the 2023 spectacle. Asati truly has his eyes set on the prize and all eyes will definitely be on him come Sunday when Simbas clash with Namibia.
