A Kenyan Premier League club CEO has opened up on his encounter with stadium stewards during a football clash in Kenya.

Ronald Okoth, a former KPL player turned football administrator, has opened up over a humbling experience at the stadium VIP section left him wondering whether he was a victim of the circumstances.

He says the confrontation occurred when his team Sofapaka faced Gor on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 in Machakos County stadium.

Okoth, a renowned player who called time on his career before transitioning to the coaching and management aspect of the game, has come out to share his experience he terms as difficult than his actual daily administrative role.

He says the stewards forced him to relinquish his seat in the designated VIP space because he looked too young.

Conventionally, entry into a stadium should be easy and hassle-free for a player or club official. In some cases, access is granted upon one producing his ID. It’s even easier for a household name that plies Kenya’s topmost football league tier or the most followed clubs like Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.

Despite Okoth’s bio ticking all that, he was not catching a break on this day.

The run-in followed a similar one he had while accessing the stadium.

“The CEO life isn’t for the faint-hearted especially if you are young 😭😂 Highlight of my day; being asked to give up my VIP sit by a steward because I look too young to sit there was 😭🤣😂 Just getting into the gate was a major problem,” Okoth who also engages in television sports punditry lamented.

“Being the CEO doesn’t mean much when the stewards think you’re too young to sit in VIP 😭😂 The hustle is real 😭🤣 Running a football club is easier than convincing stewards you’re the CEO 😭😂 .”

Okoth was named as the club CEO in April 2024. The role saw him start his management and has since improved the club’s on-pitch fortunes too. After a 16th-placefinish last season, the Batoto ba Mungu have seen a massive turnaround and ranked top ten in the current campaign.

Meanwhile, Okoth asserts that he is not lumping over the incident opting instead to take in the challenges that come with his line of work.

“Another day, another story! I’m just here for the memories,  but kuanzia next game mimi na watu wangu tunaka Russia,” he commented.
