Tergat, Komen inducted into Allianz Memorial Hall of Fame
Legendary runner Paul Tergat one of the greatest athletes of his generation and World record holder Daniel Komen, has been inducted into this year’s Hall of Fame at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme in Brussels, Belgium to be held on September 2.
Tergat took part in the Memorial seven times and won three times.
In 1997, he set a new world record in the 10,000m in the King Baudouin Stadium. He also triumphed at that distance in Brussels in 1998 and 2000.
Tergat is also the vice-Olympic champion of 1996 and 2000 in the 10km and the vice-world champion of 1997 and 1999.
Tergat, 53, also excelled as a cross-country runner and half marathon runner.
He became world champion in cross-country five times, twice world champion in half marathon and in 2003 he set a world marathon record in Berlin with 2:04:55.
In 2013, he was one of five inductees into the Great North Run Hall of Fame in the United Kingdom.
During his illustrious career, Tergat captured five successive world cross-country titles, and also set world records for the half and full marathon distances. Tergat has won two Olympic 10,000m silver medals and two World Championship silver medals.
