Swim club cements their dominance at Kiambu County Aquatics Invitational Gala, bag a total of 84 medals to top overall standings

Supermarlins Swim Club made a splash at the Kiambu County Aquatics Invitational Gala, emerging as overall champions in a fiercely contested two-day showdown at Regis Runda Academy.
With over 350 swimmers, 27 clubs, and a staggering 2,172 entries, the gala was showcase of speed, endurance and raw talent.
Supermarlins claimed the top spot with a total of 84 medals (31 gold, 29 silver and 24 bronze), edging out NextGen Multisport Academy, which secured second place with 48 medals (28 gold, 14 silver and six bronze). Crawford International School rounded out the top three with 67 medals (19 gold, 24 silver and 24 bronze).
In the boys’ category, NextGen Multisport Academy dominated, amassing 29 medals (18 gold, seven silver and four bronze). Supermarlins followed closely with 40 medals (17 gold, 14 silver and nine bronze), while Orca Swim Club finished third with 38 medals (15 gold, 15 silver and eight bronze).
The girls’ category saw Supermarlins claim victory with 42 medals (13 gold, 15 silver and 14 bronze).
NextGen finished second with 17 medals (nine gold, seven silver and one bronze), while Aqua Shark secured third place with 23 medals (nine gold, six silver and eight bronze).
Several individual swimmers shone in their respective events. Bahemuka Jasmin, 14, from Crawford International School, clinched gold in the 800m freestyle with a time of 15:49.57. She acknowledged the stiff competition in her category but credited her success to rigorous training.
Young talents also made their mark.
Nadia Nuru, 9, from Aqua Shark Fin Club, triumphed in the 50m butterfly, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to compete against strong opponents who pushed her to improve.
Rumu Blaise, 8, from Orca Swim Club, was ecstatic after claiming gold in the same event with a time of 43.35, vowing to refine his technique and improve his timing.
Kiambu County Aquatics Association treasurer Francis Mwangi highlighted the association’s commitment to inclusivity, revealing that they fully sponsored five swimmers from Mugumoini Primary School, a public institution in Thika.
The event drew praise from sports stakeholders, including Edwin Kiptolo Boit, founder and director of NextGen Multisport Academy, who commended Kiambu Aquatics for setting high standards and nurturing young talent.
Meanwhile, Kiambu County Aquatics Association’s public relations ffficer, ex-corporal Nesmas W. Mbati, lauded teams that traveled to Arusha for the Chipukizi Championship in December 2024.
