Kiunjuri declares Ol Kalou ‘locked’ for Kenya Kwanza ahead of mini poll
The battle for the highly contested Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election has intensified after Laikipia East Member of Parliament Mwangi Kiunjuri declared that the constituency is firmly behind the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition ahead of the upcoming mini polls.
In a post on his Facebook page on Monday, June 29, 2026, Kiunjuri expressed confidence that the ruling coalition had already secured overwhelming voter support following what he described as a successful grassroots mobilisation meeting in Karau Ward.
“Hii imeenda! This afternoon, I held an incredibly successful, high-energy meeting with the formidable team and residents of Karau Ward in Ol Kalou Constituency. The energy on the ground is electric, the resolve is unshakable, and the message is crystal clear: Ol Kalou is locked under Kenya Kwanza,” Kiunjuri stated.
Kiunjuri rallies support for UDA candidate
Kiunjuri said the meeting focused on one key objective ensuring maximum voter mobilization in support of Kenya Kwanza-backed candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah in the by-election race.
According to the Member of Parliament, Karau Ward remains a critical voting bloc, and residents had reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the government’s development agenda and leadership.
“We engaged in a very candid, strategic and localized conversation focused on one clear mission maximum vote mobilization for our Kenya Kwanza candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah,” he said.
Government projects dominate Ol Kalou campaigns
Kiunjuri’s remarks come at a time when Ol Kalou has witnessed an aggressive wave of government-backed development projects, with senior Kenya Kwanza leaders camping in the constituency ahead of the mini polls.
In recent weeks, residents have seen the launch of key infrastructure projects including the upgrade of the Engineer–Ol Kalou–Nyahururu road, rehabilitation of the 37-kilometre Ithagani–Ngorika road network, expansion of the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Programme and the opening of a modern market aimed at boosting local businesses.
By-election becomes major political test
The flurry of projects has sparked criticism from opposition leaders who accuse the government of using public-funded development projects to influence voters during the by-election period.
However, Kenya Kwanza leaders maintain the projects reflect the government’s commitment to development, with Kiunjuri insisting the ruling coalition remains firmly in control of the constituency.
“Karau Ward is the heartbeat of this constituency and today they have reaffirmed their total commitment to development, reliable leadership and the transformative agenda of the government,” Kiunjuri stated.
