Sofapaka’s head coach David Ouma is optimistic that the team’s first win of the season, realised on Wednesday against FC Talanta would be their turning point as they prepare to face Mathare United in their next  league fixture on Sunday.

The 2009 league winners beat Talanta 1-0 at the Kasarani Annex in a match that they could have scored more goals. Ambrose Sifuna who was lated named as the man of the match, scored the lone goal, to ease pressure on Ouma who had won any match in the current campaign.

“I’m very happy with the way we played on Wednesday.

I think we are finally getting it right and that we can build on the win as we prepare to face Mathare United on Sunday,” Ouma told People Sport.

He added: “Our result against AFC Leopards during the Mashujaa Day was the turning point, the cohesion in the team is now great and we want to go into each match as if we are playing a final.” Sofapaka has lost two matches, shared spoils in four and won one.

Ouma’s side are sweating on the fitness of their regular centre-back Stephen ‘Fadhela’ Otieno who got injured on Monday in training and had to miss the midweek fixture. On Wednesday, Ouma had to use Ronack Otieno as Fadhela’s replacement.

“We hope Fadhela will recover from the knock by the time we are facing Mathare United on Sunday.

However, we have Ronack and Collins ‘Dona’ Olwande who can also act as his cover in case he will not be available again,” Ouma said.

Meanwhile, league leaders Tusker have a tricky fixture against title rivals Bandari in Mombasa, while a wounded Gor Mahia play Posta Rangers in Thika and AFC Leopards host Bidco at Nyayo Stadium.

After a disappointing 4-0 loss to Police on Wednesday, Wazito will be hoping to bounce back when they play Ulinzi and Police would be keen to build on their ellusive victory as they face Kariobangi Sharks.
