Kenya’s Rugby team Simbas will face off with Zimbabwe’s Sables at the Nakuru Athletics Club (NAC) on Saturday in the Currie Cup series.

The encounter comes at a time when the 30th edition of the Great Rift 10-A-side makes a comeback since 2019, with at least 12 teams having confirmed their participation in the tourney.

Simbas’ assistant coach Carlos Katywa observed that  the game would act as a rebuilding platform for the new team, revealing that they had a busy schedule in the Currie Cup – Mzansi Edition in South Africa – adding that the team is well prepared for the much-coveted game.

Captain George Ambua said   Currie Cup is a high-intensity game as compared to normal tournaments, adding that the new team has comprehended its primary role on the pitch.

“We are well prepared for Saturday’s game, we played The Sables in 2021 and we expect an entertaining game for the pride of our nation and the beauty of the game,” Ambua claimed.

Nakuru RFC chairman Ombui Ratemo noted that, ahead of the clash on Saturday, adequate security and logistical preparations are in place for the 10,000 spectators expected to grace the highly-publicized tournament.

Speaking at the pre-match briefing in Nakuru yesterday, Ratemo said Kenya Simbas is adequately prepared for the match that is scheduled to kick off at 4 PM.

He offered: “All is set ahead of the game on Saturday, security and other logistical preparations have already been done and we are ready to entertain sports enthusiasts.”

Among the clubs that have confirmed participation in the two-day event include the hosts Nakuru, defending champions Menengai Oilers, Quins, Nondies, Impala, Western Bulls, KCB, Kisumu RFC, Blak Blad, Western Bulls and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

At the same time, Nakuru County Executive Member for Sports Josephine Achieng urged all sports enthusiasts to come out in large numbers and support Simbas.

and also cheer up their respective teams in the Great Rift 10-aside.
