Siaya comes alive as Orengo opens 2025 KICOSCA Games
Siaya County Governor James Orengo is delighted as the rest of the country gathers in the particular devolved unit for the 2025 Kenya Inter-County Sports and Cultural Association Sports Championship (KICOSCA), which was officially opened on Monday, November 24, 2025.
The Jaramogi Oginga Stadium in Siaya town will be the main venue for the games. The facility will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the 12th edition of the KICOSCA competitions. Other venues are Siaya National Polytechnic, Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Siaya Campus, St Julian’s Academy, Siaya Central School and Siaya Scouts Centre from Monday, November 24 to Saturday, November 29, 2025.
”Delighted to welcome all counties to Siaya today for the official opening of the KICOSCA Games. We are honoured to host this year’s festivities and celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and teamwork across our counties. I am deeply humbled to receive the mantle as the new Patron of KICOSCA. I look forward to championing a vibrant, inclusive, and transformative sports culture within our public service,” James Orengo took to X on Monday, November 24, 2025.

While speaking to local media ahead of the championship, Kicosca secretary general Humphrey Kangea assured of full preparation as the country converges in Siaya for what promises to be an epic event.
“All the logistical and venue preparations are complete ahead of the annual games,” said Kangea. Kanea also took the opportunity to confirm that the Ministry of Devolution and Local Authorities Provident Fund have enlisted for the games, while at the same time, the County Provident Fund (CFP) has withdrawn.
“We recently inspected all venues. We are satisfied with the preparations. We are only waiting for the kick-off date,” noted Kangea. He went ahead to reveal that Nyanza Sports Club in Kisumu City will host squash and golf. “Siaya County does not have a golf course. That is why we decided to move to Kisumu,” he noted.

What to expect
In this year’s edition, an estimated number of 10,000 county employees are expected to compete in football, handball, basketball, netball, squash, badminton, and tug of war.
