Kenya’s men’s rugby side, Shujaa, and their female counterparts, Kenya Lionesses, on Saturday, May 3, 2025, had their shirt presentations ahead of a busy weekend of decisive rugby action in the HSBC Sevens promotion and relegation play-off series in Los Angeles.

The two sides are participating in the decisive circuit scheduled for Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4, 2025, as the 2024/25 World Rugby Sevens Series comes to an end.

The presentation comes after a colourful parade of nations function held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the Main Plaza on the 800 Block of Olympic Boulevard in Los Angeles, ahead of the riveting rugby action.

The parade saw the introduction of all the participating 30 teams to the fans, as well as the official captains and squad photos.

Kenya was represented by men’s co-captain George Ooro, who skippers the team alongside Samuel Asati.

Grace Odhiambo Okulu, the Lionesses skipper, represented the ladies’ side.

Whereas Shujaa will be hunting to retain their stay among the World Rugby Sevens elites, Lionesses seek to punch their way into the women’s category following an improved run through the Challenger series.

This is the first time the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series has been held in Las Vegas, with Dennis Mwanja’s ladies to make their presence count.

Fixtures

Lionesses, who topped the Challengers Series games of 2025, face a tough task in pool A alongside Brazil, Spain, and Colombia.

The ladies will open their campaign on Saturday, May 3, 2025, against Spain at 10:13 pm. The side will then finish off their games on Sunday, facing Brazil at 1:35 am and Colombia at 8:44 pm.

Shujaa will kick off against Samoa on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 9:20 pm.

The Singapore series finalist will next entertain Portugal before finalising the group A games against hosts USA at 9:28 pm. Both the final two group games will take place on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

Shujaa failed to amass enough points for a top-eight finish after finishing ninth in the 12-team series, prompting the drop to the promotion/relegation circuit.

Coach Kevin Wambua stuck to the same 13-man team that did duty in Hong Kong and Singapore in March and earlier in the month. His charges will be out to battle against Samoa, Portugal, and hosts USA in Pool A.
