Shabana FC respond to exorbitant spending claims after Gor Mahia draw
Shabana FC has dismissed claims circulating online that the club engaged in questionable spending following its recent match against Gor Mahia FC. In a firm statement released on Sunday, January 18, 2026, the club said the document shared on social media was fake and did not come from its offices.
The club said it became aware of a document making rounds online that claimed to detail expenditure linked to the high-profile fixture. Shabana described the document as false, misleading, and deliberately aimed at misleading the public.
“It has come to our attention that a fabricated document is circulating on various social media platforms containing false and misleading information regarding expenditure following the Shabana FC versus Gor Mahia FC match,” the statement read. “We wish to categorically inform the public that this document is false and does not originate from Shabana FC.”
Shabana stressed that it has always operated with openness and accountability. The club said it consistently declares revenue and expenditure after every match through official channels, including media briefings. It pointed out that its main income streams include sponsorship, gate collections, and merchandise sales.

The club confirmed that its principal sponsor, SportPesa, contributes Ksh25 million annually. According to Shabana, this funding, together with matchday revenue, supports all club activities.
“It is from these legitimate sources that the club finances its operations,” the statement said.
Shabana also explained how it manages its teams. The club runs a coordinated structure that supports the senior men’s team, the women’s team, and the youth side. All three teams draw from the same pool of resources, which the club said allows for better planning and financial discipline.
Allowances fully paid
Addressing the specific Gor Mahia match, which ended in a 0-0 draw at Gusii Stadium on January 11, the club gave clear figures on player allowances. Shabana said it paid a total of Ksh839,000 in winning and draw bonuses, with an additional top-up of Ksh169,000. This brought the total payout to Ksh1.08 million.
The club said these payments cleared all outstanding allowances, including those from the earlier Sofapaka FC match. It added that the payments followed a signed motivational agreement that both the team captain and team manager acknowledged. Shabana confirmed that it has no pending salary or bonus arrears and that salaries now run on a normal payment cycle.

Shabana also rejected claims that it spent money on items listed in the fake document. It said SportPesa covered matchday services such as the public address system, DJ services, branding, decoration, and hospitality for visitors at no cost to the club. The club denied allegations of personal spending by officials, saying all payments followed approved contracts and procedures.
Looking ahead, Shabana said it continues to invest in long-term growth. It highlighted support for its women’s team, which currently leads the Women’s National Super League, and the youth team, which recently earned promotion to the Regional League.
The club said all financial records remain available for scrutiny at its offices. It warned that spreading unverified information risks damaging unity and progress. Shabana ended by thanking fans, partners, and stakeholders for their support and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and steady growth.
