Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has promised an unusual form of support for Harambee Stars in their upcoming Group A match against Morocco in the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament, which will be staged on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

This follows the team’s spirited 1-1 draw against Angola on Thursday, August 7, 2025, despite being reduced to 10 men early in the game.

Taking to his official social media accounts after the Harambee Stars’ clash with Angola, Salasya praised their performance and expressed his excitement for the upcoming match against Morocco.

Aki sauti imechoka, but that was a win for the Harambee Stars. My prediction was to win, but red card messed us ndio tukapata draw,” he stated.

Cheering Harambee Stars

The vocal MP, known for his dramatic flair, added that while he is not generally a football fan, he considers himself “fan number 001” of Harambee Stars and promised to go shirtless during the national team’s next match to show his support, arguing that the temperatures will be too high for him.

“Sunday the temperatures will be too high for me; nitatoa shati just to cheer the Harambee Stars because I am not a fan of football but harambee stars am fun number 001,” Salasya wrote on X.

Kenya vs Angola

Salasya’s excitement comes after the ten-man Harambee Stars on Thursday, August 7, 2025, held Angola to a dramatic 1-1 draw in a fiery Group A encounter at the 2024 CHAN tournament.

Angola struck first in the seventh minute when striker Jó Paciência capitalised on a defensive lapse to calmly slot the ball past Kenya’s Byrne Odhiambo. The 29-year-old forward, formerly of Cape Town City, showed composure and precision to give Pedro Gonçalves’ side a dream start.

But Kenya responded swiftly. Just four minutes later, the referee pointed to the spot after a foul. Austin Odhiambo stepped up and confidently converted the penalty in the 11th minute, his second goal of the tournament, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

The momentum seemed to be swinging in Kenya’s favour until the 21st minute, when midfielder Marvin Nabwire received a straight red card following a VAR review. Initially booked with a yellow for a reckless tackle on Angola’s Além, the decision was upgraded to a red, reducing Kenya to ten men for the rest of the match.
