The National Assembly has observed a moment of silence in honour of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga before Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi commenced the presentation of the 2026/27 Budget Statement.

Mbadi briefly paused his opening remarks on Thursday, June 11, 2026 to pay tribute to Raila, describing him as a patriot, national hero, and a steadfast champion of economic justice, democracy, and equal opportunity.

“This is the first budget since the passing of the late Right Honourable Raila Odinga, who is fondly remembered as a patriot and national hero and most forcefully championed economic justice, democracy and equal opportunity for all Kenyans. In honour of his immense contribution to our country, I would politely request and invite members of this esteemed House to observe a moment,” Mbadi said.
