Sadio Mane inspires Senegal as Harambee Stars suffer heaviest defeat in recent history
By Joel Masibo, November 18, 2025Kenya’s Harambee Stars endured one of their darkest evenings in recent memory after being thrashed 8–0 by a ruthless Senegal side in an international friendly played on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Mardan Stadium in Antalya, Turkey.
The Lions of Teranga dominated every department of the match, handing Benni McCarthy’s men a defeat that will undoubtedly force deep introspection within the technical bench.
Senegal run riot
The former African champions announced their intent almost immediately, pressing high and unsettling Kenya from the opening whistle. Their aggression paid off in the 9th minute when Nicolas Jackson sliced in from the left and beat goalkeeper Brian Bwire with a low finish.
Three minutes later, Kenya were punished for poor decision-making at the back. A misplaced pass by Bwire gifted El Hadji Malick Diouf an easy tap-in, doubling Senegal’s advantage. Things deteriorated quickly for the Stars, as Jackson struck again in the 14th minute, capitalising on Kenya’s disorganised back line to make it 3–0.
Former Liverpool star Sadio Mané then took full control of the game. The Senegal captain broke through midfield in the 17th minute and unleashed a fierce strike to extend the lead. Kenya’s defence continued to crumble, conceding a penalty around the half-hour mark, which Mané coolly converted for 5–0. He completed his hat-trick in the 35th minute, rounding off a breathtaking first-half performance that sent Senegal into the break with an astonishing 6–0 lead.
Senegal seal win
The second half offered little respite for Kenya. Just three minutes after the restart, Ibrahim Mbaye added Senegal’s seventh, punishing more defensive lapses.
Kenya’s nightmare concluded in the 80th minute when they conceded a second penalty, this time converted by Chérif Ndiaye to seal the 8–0 demolition, as Senegal comfortably controlled the remaining minutes of the game.

Before the match, Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed had shared an encouraging message with both Harambee Stars and their U17 counterparts, calling on the young players to carry the country’s flag with confidence and unity on their road to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U17.
Hussein reminded the team of the effort that brought them this far. “Best of luck to the Junior Stars as they begin their U-17 AFCON qualifiers against Somalia today. Your hard work and determination have brought you this far; it’s now time to put in the work,” the statement read.
