Rwanda sweep Kenya to clinch Africa ParaVolley women’s title

Defending champions Team Rwanda Women sealed their dominance at the 2025 Africa Sitting Volleyball Championship with a straight-sets victory over Kenya (25-21, 25-23, 25-16) at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
The result marked their third consecutive win in the best-of-five series.
The triumph not only crowned Rwanda as African champions once again but also underlined their unshaken grip on the continental crown, now securing their fourth consecutive title.
Kenya, the only other competitor following Nigeria’s withdrawal, had aimed for a comeback after back-to-back defeats, but the Rwandans proved too dominant.
No way back
Kenya’s head coach, John Kihato, had earlier acknowledged the uphill task against Rwanda’s vastly experienced side.
“We came into this game with improvement from our previous matches, but Rwanda is a tough team. We’re proud of the fight we showed, even if the result didn’t go our way,” Kihato said.
Rwanda opened the campaign with commanding 3-0 wins 25-15, 25-15, 25-20 on Friday and 25-13, 25-16, 25-18 on Saturday. Sunday’s repeat sealed a clean sweep.

Speaking after the win, Rwanda’s head coach Mosaad Elaiuty said the focus was now on global success.
“We are happy with our performance and dominance. While we respect our opponents, we are using this championship as preparation for the bigger stage the World Cup in Fort Wayne, USA,” he said during an interview with a local media publication.
Elaiuty had hinted at squad rotation for Game Three, reflecting his confidence in the squad’s depth.
World Cup bound
Despite the loss, both Kenya and Rwanda have already secured their places at the 2025 Sitting Volleyball World Cup, set for October 12 to 18 in Fort Wayne, USA.
Meanwhile, in the men’s category, Kenya will next face Rwanda, aiming to recover after a narrow 3-2 defeat to Algeria in their opening fixture.
