The 2025 first Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League fixtures set for the opening weekend, have been rescheduled due to the new administration intention to restructure operations at Kandanda House

A memo shared to newsrooms from FKF Interim CEO & Acting General Secretary Patrick Korir stated that due to the transitional situation from the former office to the new one, there was urgency in restructuring key committees, which were non-existent, thus the move. Due to the same, the top tier league remained affected and as such, Match Day 15 needed to be pushed forward.

The letter copied to FKF president Hussein Mohamed and Vice-president McDonald Mariga stated: “Following the recent football elections held on December 7, 2024, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) finds itself in a transition period that has largely affected the running of our leagues, moreso the top league; the FKF Premier League. Following a new dispensation, the Federation is at the point of restructuring its operations across key areas.

Currently vital standing committees such as leagues and competitions, and referee player status; among others, which are a direct tie-in to the running of the top and other leagues, are non-existent.

In view of the above, and following a recent executive meeting, it was resolved that the first set of premier league games earmarked for January 4-5,2025; be postponed to a later date to allow the process of formation of the said committees to conclude during a National Executive meeting set for January 7, 2025.”

Meanwhile, FKF-PL defending Champions Gor Mahia FC are gearing up for a friendly duel with Ugandan Premiership side Kitara FC Friday in Siaya. The match will be used as an opening of the new Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium that has been developed and built by the County Government of Siaya.

Just after the New Year holiday, the record Kenyan Champions with 21 titles will set base in Nyanza alongside their guests ahead of the tasty duel expected to be graced by political leadership of the area.
