Police FC coach Ndayiragije picks positives in Mogadishu CC beating
Kenya Police FC head coach Etienne Ndayiragije has picked the positives from his side’s 2-0 defeat in the second leg of the CAF Champions League preliminaries against Somalian side Mogadishu City Club at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
The Burundian tactician blamed the defeat on poor pass delivery and failure to be clinical in the final third as the reason the Police lost to the Somalian Premier League champions at home.
”We are grateful for the outcome and pick the positives. We were good on the ball going forward and better in the transitions, but failed to convert our chances in the final third. Losing possession easily also contributed because it slowed down the flow of the game. Our first leg advantage has made us cross over, and we thank God for that,” Ndayiragije said.
Despite the beating, Kenya Police FC have progressed to the second preliminary round of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League, advancing on the away goals rule.
The encounter began with Mogadishu City pressing high, looking to overturn the first leg 3-1deficit they suffered at the same venue a week ago. On the other hand, the home side, Kenya Police, tried to control early possession but struggled to create clear chances in the finishing line. Their first notable opportunity came in the 21st minute when Alvin Otieno linked with Eric Zakayo, but the referee waved off the attack after a foul appeal.
Mogadishu City broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute after Issa Adam Abatari took advantage of a defensive error in Police FC’s defence to beat goalkeeper Khadime Ndiaye. Ten minutes into the second half, Joash Onyango fouled Abdikadir Enow inside the box. Ibrahima Bangura converted the penalty confidently, doubling Mogadishu’s advantage and tying the aggregate at 3-3.
Kenya Police FC next assignments
After escaping narrowly, Kenya Police FC will now face Sudanese giants Al Hilal in the second preliminary round. The team’s resilience under pressure will be crucial if they are to make history by reaching the group stages. Kenya Police FC are making their debut in the competition after emerging as the 2024/2025 Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions for the first time in the league’s history.
